On Monday July 7th I had arthroscopic knee surgery on my right knee. For those of you who do not know the back story here is the short version. About a month before my fifth birthday I had knee surgery on my right knee. The reasoning was because I had a stiff right quadriceps which prevented me from bending my knee at all and as a result I could not bend my knee. So, the doctor went in and operated and the end result was that I was able to bend my knee, not all the way but about 90 degrees or so. To me this was a big deal, I mean imagine not being able to bend you leg at all and then wake up and it is bent. That was pretty neat to me. Well, ever since that surgery my leg had been bothering me. What he had to do the first time was cut out scar tissue and lengthen my quad. so that means that I had even more scar tissue which over the years became painful, especially when I tore some of it while exercising or what not.
So, my mom and I went into a doctor in June to see what medical advances they had and if there was anything he could do to relieve this leg and give me some more mobility. He said he could do an arthroscopic surgery and clean out the scar tissue. He knew immediately what had been done when I told him what was bothering me and he even knew the original doctor who did the first surgery. So, Monday rolled around and I went in at 8 am to have the surgery. The surgery it self went great and it only took him about a half hour to clean my leg. He took pictures as he went along so I could see what it looked like as it was being cleaned. To me that was cool. He had put all this packing on my right leg and made it stiff so it would not get stuck in one position or another.
In recovery my mom was there and no, I did not tell her my deepest thoughts or anything this time around. This last sentence refers to a post back in February. So, the physical therapist came in and gave me exercises to do to increase mobility and bendablity in my leg. So, I have been doing them religiously since Monday and can see slow improvements. I also was given crutches to use until I gain full mobility and am not walking with a limp and am able to put full weight on my right leg. Right now I am not able to do that and feel that I am basically learning how to re-walk. I find that I really have to think about it and say in my head OK now bend and straighten. It is pretty sad really, but I am hoping all this will help. The doctor said that I should get four more inches of mobility in my leg. So that is pretty cool.
So I have been sitting at home getting better and today I am venturing out with my mom to eat lunch and maybe go and see B at work so that I can practice my walking. Well, that is all for now. Until next time.

I keep thinking of how many stairs are in your town home. Jeez. I'm sure that is a royal pain!
Let me know if you need anything! Get better soon!
Hey Mandy-I'm glad your surgery went well. I hope you have a full and quick recovery!
You've been dealing with this since you were 5? Gosh! I hope the surgery helps as much as the doctor thinks it will and that your recovery is coming along well.
