Last week, I went to a junior league meeting. Junior League of Dallas is a service organization for women started in 1922. I have been in this one since 2006-2007. That was my first provisional year where you learn about the junior league and go to lots of meetings. The following year is called the active year where your membership counts towards becoming a sustainer. A sustainer is a person who has been in the group for ten years, it is like a different kind of membership. This all reminds me of being in a sorority because it is similar to that in how it is laid out, first you learn about it, then become active and then go on to the next phase.
Anyways, to get to my point about the meeting. The CEO of girl Scouts of America, who runs the division near Dallas came to speak. It was a very interesting meeting about where women stand and what to teach our nieces, daughters and ourselves that women in the 21st century can do anything. This was a powerful message and I thought it was interesting to see how far women have come, but how much work and how much farther they can go. The girl scouts mission is to teach that to young girls.
Here is to more interesting meetings at JLD. I have noticed over the past 6 years of being in the league that each year they try to get people that are interesting, and this year they are working on managing time and making sure that they finish the meetings early by curving off some meeting time by writing the info down rather than having people come up and speak about it. I was so glad to hear that and was finished with the meeting in about an hour and 15 minutes. Also, this year I am looking forward to my creative arts placement. It should be so much fun.
