subbing

Yesterday, I subbed at a public school, for the sake of this blog we will call it school XYZ. I subbed for first graders. I was called at 6 AM and left my house at 7 AM to get to the school by 7:45 AM. SO, as you can tell school XYZ is pretty far from where I live. So, I arrived at the school on time and found the office. This was my first time at school XYZ, and I was thinking first grade should not be too bad for one day. The staff at school XYZ was very nice and helpful. However, the students in the first grade class were AWFUL. It did not matter what I said or did the students did not listen and were very disrespectful. Now, I do not know if any of you out there have ever subbed before, but at times it can be very difficult and other times it can be great. This time, the principal came in several times and so did a few other people. The students were not only disrespectful to me but, they were also disrespectful to the other people who came in. The other teachers kept apologizing saying that the class I was with was a very difficult class. I am hoping next time I go back to another school in this district it will be a better experience.
I subbed on Monday at a local private school and had a great experience and the kids were amazing. This helps me to see how great first graders can be. There were a few snags but all in all not too many. So, in comparing these too schools it shows me a lot about the values that the students have at home and at school. So, today, I have off and am getting things done around the house and ready to go hear Owen Temple play tonight and am very excited about this.
