SO today I had my wisdom teeth out. I got lucky and had the appointment moved up from late afternoon to late morning. I was very excited about this because before you have any kind of surgery you are not allowed to eat or drink anything 6 hours prior to the surgery. So it was good to move up the appointment and get it over with. So far things are going OK and as we type this I am having some pain but not too bad. So it ended up that my top two teeth were fine and easy to get out but the bottom two were slightly impacted. So I was like joy.
The anesthesia was funny cause they put you out but not totally. So, I could hear everyone talking. I am not sure what they were talking about but it was defentantly like that is weird. So after they finished they told me that things went well and I went into this side room that kinda looked like a Western room thanks to those Western type doors. Then my mom came in when I woke up. I could not talk cause i had cause in my mouth so I resort to writing down things for my mom. It was funny. Then she took me home and I went back to sleep for a little while. My mom went to get the meds and stuff for me and checked in on me. So that was good.
However the funny part was when she was trying to give me something to drink cause I was soooo incredibly thirsty. But I was not able to drink anything because my lips were so numb. So we tried later and I still could not get anything down and what went down came back out. I was like what am I a little kid cause it was so funny. I was like well I am trying and would not really notice that the soup and drink would come out of my mouth. SO I was not sure how much I was getting in there . My dad was like I have my camera so I can take a picture of you like this. I am like thanks dad. SO I sat at dinner feeling better but, still a little numb. My dad goes you have food on your face. I am like oh ok. So this has been the experience for the day and all and all so far not too bad but very comical.
"You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do." - Eleanor Roosevelt

Wisdom teeth
For those of you wondering I am getting my wisdom teeth out tomorrow. I had to reschedule this appointment due to being sick a couple of weeks ago. This should be a new and fun way of entertaining myself and those around me. When I say entertain those around me I of corse mean when the drugs kick in I can be very entertaining. More to come on this expereince.

Rain
Today we have had so much rain off and on all day long. Lots of lightening and thundering going on today. I feel like I need a boat and a paddle to go places instead of a car. In other news, I was talking to a friend who was telling me all about the St. Patricks Day parade on Saturday. I heard there were thousands of people at this parade. I have never been but am thinking maybe next year I will go and see what everyone is talking about. Well that is all I have for now.

SMU Tate Lecture Series: Tony Blair
Tonight I had the opportunity to see Tony Blair at the Tate Lecture series held at SMU. I had a great time hearing him speak. He told lots of funny jokes and funny things that happened to him while he was Prime Minister of Brittan. He started off by telling about the British election system and how you have to move into 10 downing street the day after you are elected. Also, he mentioned a tradition that the new prime minister has to meet with the queen and ever so lightly kiss the hand of the queen. However, he ended up tripping over something and did not slightly brush her hand but went straight on. It was pretty funny. Also, he was the first prime minister to have a child while he was in office in the past 200 years. That is a little known fact I thought was interesting.
Mr. Blair spoke on the war in Iraq and what needs to be done to help win it. I thought he made some very good points and explained that many people think that "if only" Saddam or the Taliban had been thrown out earlier then we would not be where we are. However, I do not believe that we should be saying "if only" because you never know what could have happened instead or if September 11th could have still happened regardless. He went on to point out that extremest become that way over time and many years of oppression or teaching. I thought that was an interesting point, certainly one I had not thought of before. Also, he said that this is a generational war. I do think that it has changed the world as we know it and as we move on things will continue to change. In the end of his speech touched on what it is like in different countries and poverty as well as poverty in his own country. I thought it was interesting and agreed with him on this point. That a lot of times the problem with the people who are in poverty is certainly the circumstances but also you have to look at where that person has come from. You have to look at what kind of family life the child had or did not have. He said that the most important thing is not what level of socio-economic class you are in but how much you are loved and wanted by your care takers. Often times children who get stuck in poverty do not have caretakers or do not have a strong bond or relationship with a parent or guardian.
I feel that after my student teaching experience this past year I totally agree with Mr. Blair and his observation on how much the child is loved and cared for should be the number one goal of the parent or care taker. I feel that so many times people get stuck in a cycle that is seen in the United Kingdom as well as the United States. I feel that if so many of the children are loved they do not care if they have a lot or not. Mr. Blair gave the example of his own dad and how he was poor and able to make something of himself but most of all that his dad was loved and that is all he needed. Love is one of the most important characteristics that we as humans share. Mr. Blair also touched on a new project that he is starting to work on. He will be working on getting people together with different backgrounds to come together as one and see beyond the differences of culture and religion and look onto our similarities. I thought that is a great idea to get people to see each other for their commonalities and not so much there differences. I feel that this is a great start to a world that is more global than it has ever been before and each day has more opportunity for people to be connected in new ways never imagined before.
So in conclusion to this very long post I must say that I very much enjoyed the opportunity to hear a prime minister speak who has seen the world though so much change in the way we communicate and see the world.

new post
Well, there is not a whole lot going on in my life but thought I would update my blog. Today was the Texas primaries. After much discussion from my Dad I finally went to vote. I must say he made it seem more difficult than it actually was. He would not let me vote until we "talked" about what I should do. By talking I mostly mean my dad telling me who he thought I should vote for. I was a little confused by a few things but eventually got everything figgured out, and in the end I made a selection and voted. I was glad that there was not a line. To ensure I cast my vote my dad went with me and if they would have allowed him to I am sure he would have voted again. Anyone who knows my dad knows he enjoyes talking about politics. Well that is all I know for now. Until next time.
