Tonight Ben and I went to the SMU Tate Lecture series. The speaker was Diane Keaton, one of my most favorite actresses! I am so thankful to Ben's parents for giving us their tickets, that I might add are GREAT seats. Anyways, Diane Keaton was a great speaker. She talked about her life growing up and how she got to where she is today. She thanked her Mother and on the week of Mothers Day it really was special to hear. She also had movie clips through out her speech. The first one that they showed was of some of her famous movies to introduce her. Then she showed one of her mother and talked about how much she adored her mom and how her mom helped shape the woman she is today simply by being there for her and encouraging her interests. She talked about her mom's life and how she lost her battle with altzhimers a year and a half ago and how she missed her mom. Then she talked about her dad and how he lost his battle with brain cancer about 20 years ago and her relationship with him. She talked about her fear of intimacy and what she has done to over come it. She has adopted two children, who she talked about as any parent would. She showed a clip of her children growing up which was very funny and showed the audience who she is and the people in her life.
She talked about the movies she was in and the affect they have on her and her life. Her message to me was simple. Love the people in your life and be sure to let them know that every day. She did say that of all the movies she has made she does not have a favorite and in true fashion to any great artist that she does not watch her movies. Which I always think is so interesting. She was a great speaker and had a great message. She was very down to Earth and was just as I have imagined she would be in real life.
