baby update

When I found out wee were pregnant I was really excited and could not wait to tell Ben, followed by our families. We found out In November and went in at 6 weeks we had an early sonogram. It was here that we found out we were not just having one baby but two. Twins. We were shocked to say the least. It took a while but we got used to the idea. For many factors was considered high risk. My doctor  watched me closely and even had me go to a paranatologist. This is a doctor that has extra training to watch a patient carefully. It was this doctor that would ultimately decide when the babies would be born based on what he was seeing each week.

May 18th we went to our appointment. I was telling the doctor how uncomfortable I was at 32 weeks 3 days pregnant. With two babies baby A was breach and baby B was transverse between my ribs. After this appointment the doctor told us to go down to my OB which was the next appointment we had. He told us that we were checking in the hospital to get a round of steroid shots to help the babies lungs mature. He said they would watch me for two days and that the babies would be born May 20th. As we walked down to check in and called our families to tell them we were checking in that we would have the babies that Friday. We reached our goal of 32 weeks. 

The babies were born May 20th which was very special and B found out he passed his 7th architecture exam the day we were being prepped to have the babies. So it was a big day needless to say. Throughout our pregnancy we were preparing ourselves for the possibility that the babies would come early and would be small. Which has helped greatly with this transition. 

It has been said that the biggest gifts come in the smallest of packages which is very true with these babies. They might be small but they are strong and doing great at growing. They are currently in the NICU and most likely will be there until we reach their due date. We are taking everything one day at a time. It has helped that the doctors have prepared us for this journey and we know the babies are getting the best care they can. The bonus part is that we have pros teaching us what we need to know before going home with the babies.

So here is to the day that forever changed our lives and made us parents to two of the cutest babies around.
