A Texas Rangers game and the former President

Tonight I went to a Texas Rangers Baseball game with my family. This is a yearly tradition that we do to celebrate one of my Dad's cousin's birthday. First we all meet up at a family members house and then go all together to the game in a mini party bus. It is always a fun time. Something different this year was that former President George W. Bush was there. My dad came up and told me that the president was there and I said the president of what? not knowing what he was talking about. I had the opportunity to meet him which was so cool to me. It was a real surreal feeling meeting someone that is famous in the world. He was really nice. He asked me how old I was and I told him and then my dad told him I had been in sunday school with his daughters and then he asked if I learned more than they did, which was funny. It was just so cool shaking his hands and seeing him. He is a really nice guy I think. So that is my excitement for today. And to top it all off the Rangers won the game :)

Tomorrow on to the Cowboys game tomorrow and to see the new stadium, a fun weekend ahead.

A bachelorette party

Last weekend I went to a friends bachelorette party. It was a lot of fun. We had our nails done and then went and played a 1950's bingo game called Bride Bingo. It was so much fun. Then we went to dinner at Kona Grill and on to Pete's Piano bar in Addison. The night was full of fun and lots of laughs and most importantly, girl time. I got to know a lot of new people and make some new friends along the way.

Now there are only a few more weeks until my friend says I do. I am excited for the upcoming wedding and counting down the days.

A learning experience

Today I went to a local university with a highly ranked speech pathology program. I went in to get information on the program as well as for myself. I am currently trying to get information on all fronts to see which path is next for me. I was excited and had a lot of questions going into the appointment. I got there early to make sure I did not get lost. A nice girl saw me and asked if I was meeting with the advisor whom I will call ms. X. I walked into her office and told her thanks for seeing me and that I was wanting some more information on her program. As I was talking to her and telling her a very little about myself. I told her I have a teaching certification that I got after undergrad. All she wanted to talk about is why I did not have a job in special education yet. I was like well the economy makes it hard.

Then I told her my undergrad GPA which is not the best and I am aware if that which is why I had made thr appointment. To see what I could do. Upon hearing my GPA she told me that no I could not get into the program at all and went on to say that the reason was because in undergrad I was very imature and so when I got my teaching certification I was more mature so that is why I probably did better. Then she answered the phone and started talking. I am thinking who are you to tell me this you do not even know me. I could not believe she was saying this. Then she finished her call and did not appoplogise at all.

I asked her about assistantships and she said oh well you can do that. And then I thanked her for her time and left. I feel that ms. X is a pompas A$$ if you ask me. The reason is her judging me on very little information and so she made up her mind that i should have not come in. I hope in the future that ms. X grows up and and thinks before she speaks.

I have Learned in my life to not listen to people like ms. X because if I did I would not have gotten to where I am today. I just have to work harder to prove these people wrong and teach them a lesson about humility along the way.

Rough Riders Game

Friday, August 7, 2009 Ben and I went to see the minor league baseball team called the Frisco Rough Riders. This was my first minor league baseball experience. Ben had gone a few years back. We first drove out there earlier in the afternoon to beat the traffic, and go to the stonebriar mall. It was a fun experience to see what stores were out there. Then we decided to have an early dinner at a Applebee's before the game started. Then it was off to the game. Ben and I were both very excited because, Pete Delkus the weather man of the channel 8 news was there. We thought that it was cool to see him and he looked the same as he did on TV. Also, we had the opportunity to watch him do his news cast which was a pretty cool thing. I had not seen anyone do a news cast in person before, other than on TV. So, it was fun to see how it all worked. Then later in the game he came out on the field and had his little daughter do the weather for us. She was a cute kid and did a great job.

Another thing I thought was interesting was the people around us. During one of the longer innings, I was looking around. There was a really cute family in front of Ben and I with a little girl who was maybe three and she loved to dance to the music. I found myself laughing at her cuteness. Then the people behind me kept talking about someone they know named Mandy, which that being my name was a bit distracting. But, the game was so much fun just experiencing all that there was. Ben and I got some great nuts that had cinnimon on them and then shared a drink and some mint chocolate chip ice cream later. We ended up leaving just after the 7th inning stretch. I can not wait to go back again.

will work for.....

So today I went to check up on some jobs at two local school districts. The first one I went to I had applied to and received a letter from them back in May and then a phone call back in June. So, I go by to check on it and ask about my status. My answer was that there are currently no positions available in the elementary level, but they would let me know if something came up that I needed to interview for. As well as adding that they keep all applications on file for 2 years. I told the very nice lady thanks for checking and letting me know. Then I went to a second local district that I had applied to. I asked them if there was anything else to do other than apply online and they were very helpful and said that should be good enough and that I could call person x to check as well and that someone would contact me. Then, as I was driving back I got a phone call from another school. I called them back when I got home and was told that they did not have any positions either, but I could sub there. So I said that would be great and asked what I needed to do to get on that list, and added that they should have all my information that I had sent them as well as an application that I had filled out for a tutoring job that is apart from the school. So at least today I have felt like I have some answers to many questions.

I will be tutoring a little girl that is going into kindergarten for about a week and a half helping her prepare for kindergarten to be at the top of the class, as her grandmother who is a family friend had asked me to help with. So, that is something to look forward to for a bit. Also, I am looking into taking the GRE to go and get a masters degree. I am thinking that will help me too since I feel I have done everything I can and still just stuck. I am looking into speech path programs which my undergrad degree is in as well as education programs. I just recently have felt at a loss of what else I can do to get a job, even an aide or assistant job just to get my feet wet. I feel that everyone wants you to have experience but no one seems to be willing to help you get the experience, my life is a never ending circle of non experience. I guess subbing and student teaching do not seem to count anymore. UGH....

So, we will see where I end up and if I end up subbing again. I will be starting off on many more sub lists this year than last so I am hoping that will be in my favor and something will happen from that. So, that is my job update for now.
